Jesus shows us that the path to glory runs through suffering, not around it. As we follow Him, we learn to trust the Father’s voice over every other, even when the cost is high.

Exodus 4:10-17

There are some remarkable parallels between how Jesus sounds in His interaction with Peter in Matthew 16:20-24 and Yahweh's interaction with Moses in Exodus 3:1-4:20.  Strikingly, Exodus 4:14 is the first place in the Bible in which it says, explicitly, "the LORD's anger burned." . . . What would incite Jesus' irritation with Peter? And what makes God so angry about Moses' questions in Exodus 3-4?  How did Moses move from "legitimate questions" God is willing to engage to questions that barely conceal reluctance or resistance?  And when and where and how might you and I be in danger of such an anger-of-God inciting misstep in our walk and talk with God?

Exodus 3:13-22

Coming out of Jude's  1) contend (against enemies and detractions within and without), 2) remember (the pattern of Scripture that conveys the struggle God calls us to in living for Him and the warning from earlier apostles that such challenges would emerge), and 3) persevere . . . this message transitions to Jesus, who says, "If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take us his cross, and follow Me."  This "pattern of the Gospel" seems to go . . . all the way back to Moses, too. In Exodus 3, God appeared to Moses and showed Him His greatness and glory; God expressed His concern for the affliction and sufferings of His people." (Well and good.) But then God said, "And therefore, I am sending You!"
Moses became . . . "uncomfortable."  I think I would, too.  How about you? In these patterns of God's engagements and "callings" of people, might it be that you and I might are a lot like Peter, or a lot like Moses?  While, meanwhile, God, today, is (still) a lot like God [!]?

Jude 22-23

Jude teaches that winning the battle for truth is not the same as restoring the church, because God’s goal is not just a defended faith but a healed community. Therefore, believers must practice discerning mercy: patient with doubters, urgent with those drifting toward destruction, and cautious with those entrenched in sin, just as Christ has shown mercy to us.

As we continue the series on Jude, we see that the primary response to immoral people in their midst is not to focus more deeply on rooting them out, but on growing in their spiritual lives.

Jude 5-11

Jude warns the church that not everyone who begins in God’s salvation continues in faithful obedience. Using Israel in the wilderness, fallen angels, and Sodom and Gomorrah, he shows a pattern: privilege does not replace perseverance, and crossing God’s boundaries leads to judgment. One of the most pressing areas is in sexual sin and so the church is called to walk in the mercy, power, and grace of God.
